Workshop Overview
Join writer Susan Browne and naturalist Ger Scollard for a 3-hour creative writing workshop inspired by nature, in the beautiful surroundings of Listowel Town Park and the Garden of Europe.
Enjoy creative writing exercises, a mindful wildlife walk, inspiring prompts, and gentle guidance to help you connect with nature and your own voice.
No previous writing experience is needed. All levels are welcome. The workshop will take place both indoors and outdoors, including a walk in the park, so please dress for the weather.
Along the way, you’ll discover the richness of Kerry’s wildlife corridors and explore simple ways we can all support and celebrate them.
Through simple writing prompts, group discussion, and quiet time to write, you will be invited to slow down, notice what’s around you, and explore your own voice on the page.
You might be completely new to creative writing, returning to it after a break, or already writing and looking for fresh inspiration.
What to Expect
In this workshop, you will:
- Enjoy writing opportunities in a welcoming and relaxed space
- Use guided prompts to explore trees, hedgerows, and nature themes in your writing
- Experiment with short creative writing exercises
- Take part in discussion about writing, biodiversity, and the connections between them
- Leave with new writing on the page, as well as insights into our local wildlife corridors and how they can inspire us
There will be time for questions, and you do not need to share your writing unless you wish to.

Support and Funding
This workshop is funded by Creative Ireland / Creative Communities and supported by Kerry County Council and Crainn Chiarraí.
It follows on from the 2025 project Kerry’s Wildlife Corridors: Hedgerows and Trees of the Kingdom, where artists across the county delivered a series of creative workshops to raise awareness of the importance of wildlife corridors, particularly hedgerows and trees. An exhibition arising from those workshops is currently touring the county.
